Ida Mae was adopted by William Sherman READ and his wife Williamina Ann WILSON Read Jun 6, 1918 at Fargo,Cass,ND and her name was changed to Frances Isabella Read. Adoption papers list parents as Esther Hazelwood, widow, and Robert Hazelwood, deceased (original surnames were typed as 'Hazel' and 'wood' is written in). It was not until the year 2000 that it was known that Robert actually lived until 1945 and that Esther and Robert apparently separated about 1907 or 1908. This information appears to make the paternity of Ida May questionable. Her older brother, Elmer Leroy Morris (born in 1912 as Leroy Hazelwood) father as 'unknown' on his birth certificate. Frances is still living as of February 2005.
