notes by Jim Crawford...my mother's birth certificate says that her father was Robert Hazelwood and that he died in Oct 1916 in Estevan, Saskatchewan...apparently this information was given by her mother, Esther Hill, at the time of her birth in February 1917 or when was given up for adoption near that time.
I have seen the birth certificate of her brother Leroy's [adopted name Elmer Leroy Morris] who was born a few years earlier and it says that Esther was the mother and that the father was unknown. It appears unlikely that Robert was actually Ida Mae's father, but since it does say that on her birth certificate, I will continue to list it this way in the absence of any evidence of who her father may have actually been...both Elmer and Ida May [adopted name Frances Isabella Read] were subsequently adopted by different families...another possible sister, Lottie, was raised by their oldest sister, Catherine (Kitty)...it is unknown if Lottie was Catherine's daughter or Esther's daughter...and if any of them were fathered by Robert...

ROBERT HAZELWOOD, 77, of Boissevain, Man., died Thursday at Victoria hospital. He was born in Goderich, Huron County, Ont., the son of the late John Hazelwood and Catherine Hart. After coming to Winipeg 69 years ago, he moved to Thornhill for a few years and then to Whitewater in 1886. In 1891, he married Esther Hill of Boissevain. One son, Harkness, was killed in the last war [WWI] and a daughter, Edna, died in childhood. Surviving are three daughters, Mildred of Saskatoon; Rose of Minot, N.D. and Kitty in Minnesota. He is also survived by five brothers, Alonzo, of Boissevain; George, of Hardisty, Alta.; Jack, of New Bridgen, Alta.; Will, of North Battleford, Sask.; Joseph, of Wideview, Sask.; and one sister, Edith Ann of Goodlands, Man. Another sister, Ella, died a year ago. The body now resting at Mordue's funeral home will be sent to Boissevain cemetery Sunday at 2 p. m.
...another note says...he was a horse trainer for D. Willes in Brandon, Manitoba...
