Anne Stanhope was born circa February 1576.1 She was the daughter of Sir Thomas Stanhope and Margaret Port.1 She married Sir John Holles, 1st Earl of Clare , son of Denzill Holles and Eleanor Sheffield , on 23 May 1591 at Shelford, Nottinghamshire, England .1 She died on 18 November 1651 at Piazza, Covent Garden, London, England .1 She was buried on 22 December 1651 at St. Mary's Church, Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, England .2 Her will (dated 5 November 1651) was probated on 26 November 1651.2 From 23 May 1591, her married name became Holles.1 As a result of her marriage, Anne Stanhope was styled as Baroness Houghton of Houghton on 9 July 1616. As a result of her marriage, Anne Stanhope was styled as Countess of Clare on 2 November 1624.
