Cynan Dindaethwy, King of Gwynedd, (740-816), his father was King Rhodri Molwynog died AD 745.
Cynan had a daughter Ethil (Essylt) of Gwynedd that married King Gwriad (Gurait) of Ynys Macaw (Island of Man).
His mother was Princess Margaret of Ireland.
There were rumours, recorded in the Red Book of Hergest, that Cynan was really the son of the Royal woodsman, Calydigan.
Cynan was passed over for the throne when his father died and it was taken by Lord Caradog ap Meirion (son of Merion) of Rhos
Cynan took the throne upon Caradog's death but only lasted one year until Caradog's son Hywel drove him from the shores of Ynys Mon (Anglesey) - probably to Ynys Manaw (Isle of Man) where his daughter was Queen.
Two years later when Cynan tried to retake the throne he was killed in battle.
