John was born on January 16th, 1756 in Spotsylvania County, Virginia . John's father was Edward Herndon and his mother was Mary Colson . His paternal grandparents were Edward Herndon and Elizabeth Stubblefield ; his maternal grandparents were Charles Colston and Rebecca Travers . He had a brother and two sisters, named Edward , Mary and Hannah . He was the oldest of the four children. He had three half-brothers and three half-sisters, named Thomas , William , Joseph , Sarah , Philadelphia and Lucy . He died at the age of 55 on February 13th, 1811 in Scott County, Kentucky .
