John was born in 1700 in Caroline County, Virginia . John's father was Edward Herndon and his mother was Mary E Waller . His paternal grandparents were William Herndon and Catherine Digges ; his maternal grandparents are Dr. John Waller and <Unknown>. He had five brothers and three sisters, named Edward , William , Richard , David , James , Anne , Martha and . He was the oldest of the nine children. He had a half-sister named Esther . He died at the age of 86 in 1786 in Charlotte County, Virginia .
