  General Notes:

In 1876 he entered into partnership with Ira M. Kirkendall and William Penn Kirkendall and they conducted a retail grocery business for a number of years under the name of Kirkendall & Whiteman. Later it became the firm of Whiteman & Patterson, and in 1888 they went into the wholesale grocery business. They built up a lucrative business, but in 1904 the partnership was dissolved. Mr. Whiteman then went into business with his eldest son in the wholesale stationary firm of H. A. Whiteman & Co.
