"Mrs. Christina Whiteman, age 72, a pioneer of St. Joseph county, died Tuesday night at 5:30 o'clock in her residence where she was born, on Olive street road in Center township. She was born May 14, 1854, and had spent all her life in St. Joseph county. Oct. 3, 1875, she was united in marriage with David Whiteman, in Center township, and last October they celebrated their golden wedding.
Besides her husband she is survived by one son, Claude Whiteman, Union township; two daughters, Mrs. Rowena Ritter, Greene township, and Mrs. Wreatha Poole, Center township, and eight grandchildren. Elias Rupel, of South bend, is her uncle. The funeral will be held in the residence Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Rev. Cecil Franklin, pastor of the Indiana Avenue Christian Church, officiating. Burial will be in Bowman cemetery." South Bend Tribune, May 26, 1926, p. 5.
