Born John William Chute, and the fraternal twin of Jill Chute. Member of a Catholic International Religious Teaching Brothers - the Marist Brothers. In 1951, when he made his vows, he adoped the name of "Kostka" in honor of the Polish Jesuit saint, Stanislaus Kostka, and elected to keep his name after the 1965 Vatican Council which allowed the clergy to use their family names.
Attended Mittagong College in 1944, at the age of 12, then took his vows at 17 years of age and was ordained in 1951. He recently celebrated his 50th Jubilee (in 2001).
