Henry Howard, 12th Earl of Suffolk and 5th Earl of Berkshire, KG <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Order_of_the_Garter>, PC <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Privy_Council_of_Great_Britain> (16 May 1739 \endash 7 March 1779 ) was a British politician who served as Secretary of State for the Northern Department <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secretary_of_State_for_the_Northern_Departmentt> under Lord North <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frederick_North%2C_2nd_Earl_of_Guilford> from 1771 to 1779. In this capacity he secured the use of Hessian <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hesse> and Hanoverian </wiki/Hanover> mercenaries to help suppress the American Revolution <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Revolution>.
