• Anecdote, Feb 1786, Canada. 10419 Elenor Hoffman, widow of Peter Maybee, made a claim under the UEL act. According to her claim, Peter had moved to Saratoga after having lived in Dutchess County, and they had a son named John who was 12 years old at the time of Eleanor's statement. Peter's estate in Saratoga was confiscated, and Eleanor was living in Sorel in 1783. It appears from the document that Eleanor's statement was given in February 1788, making son John's birth year approximately 1775.

Peter was a Native of America lived at Saratoga joined the British in 1776, joined Col Jessup died in Canada in the Winter of 1777 he had been with Bourgogne She went to Canada the Summer after her Husbands death. No. 1. Her husband had 150 acres in Dutchess County He had it by gift from his father 20 years age on his marriage. He lived there 4 years 90 acres clear. He let it when he went away. She thinks the rent was 19.c per annum No.2. He went and settled at Saratoga on lease lands. He had a lease for 3 hives 8 or 9 years before the War He had about 100 acres. Rent was £4.10 York after 10 years. He had improved 60 acres. Has heard a rebel officer is settled on No. 1. He had 2 good horses - 2 cows - 2 calves - 10 sheep - 16 hogs - furniture and utensils.
