24 Sep 1862, muster 06 Nov 1862 age 56 res Cedar Rapids; died
disease at Alton IL 15 Sep 1863. The Iowa 37th were known as
the "Greybeard" division as all soldiers were to be over 40
years of age and in non-combat rolls (prison guards, etc).

Alexander married Martha Ann Mabie [32969] [MRIN: 551607344], daughter of Joseph T. Mabie [39257] and Roxanne [33172], on 24 Sep 1846.⁷²²⁰ (Martha Ann Mabie [32969] was born on 5 Sep 1822 in Ohio ⁷²²⁰ and died on 18 Jan 1865 ⁷²²³.)
