He worked in a M*A*S*H type unit as an orderly on the nothernmost island of Japan. The island was 15 min. by helicopter to the front line. He contracted a sickness ( hepatitis ) and was sent home . Death: On the way home from a trip to the Wisconsin Dells he was experiencing symptoms of a heart attack ( neither he or his wife was aware that they were symptoms ) . They stopped at a gas station in Mowequa, Il and he fell flat after coming out of the bathroom at the station.. Help arrived but he was already gone . ( Personnal memories- Cathy Underwood Smith )
