Her father was of the family of Geraldines, one ot the prominent lines of Anglo-Irish lords who settled in Ireland in the time of Henry II. It is interesting to note that not only did her first husband die unpleasantly, Sir Francis Bryan <http://www.tudorplace.com.ar/Bios/FrancisBryan(JusticeofIreland).htm> died of unknown causes while it is said, Joan was seeing Gerald FitzGerald, the Rebel Earl, who would become her third husband. There was no issue of the third marriage. Joan died 2 Jan 1564/5. There was no mystery of FitzGerald's death; he was attainted, chased down and on 11 Nov 1583 slain, and his head sent to Queen Elizabeth <http://www.tudorplace.com.ar/aboutElizabeth.htm>.

Joan married James Butler 9th Earl of Ormonde [14701] [MRIN: 7036], son of Piers Butler 8th Earl of Ormonde [13789] and Margaret FitzGerald Countess Ormonde [14820], before 21 Dec 1532. (James Butler 9th Earl of Ormonde [14701] was born about 1496, died on 28 Oct 1546 in London, Greater London, England and was buried in St. Thomas of Acon, London, England.). The cause of his death was Poisoned.

Joan next married Sir Francis Bryan Knight / Lord Chief Justice of Ireland [46031] [MRIN: 551610917] before 28 Aug 1548 in Childington, Buckinghamshire, England.

Joan next married Gerald FitzJames FitzGerald 15th Earl Desmond [46027] [MRIN: 551610916], son of James FitzJohn FitzGerald 14th Earl Desmond [46014] and Mór O'Caerbhaill [46025], about 1551. (Gerald FitzJames FitzGerald 15th Earl Desmond [46027] was born about 1533 and died on 11 Nov 1583 in Glenagintigha, Tralee, Kerry, Ireland.). The cause of his death was Killed by Daniel Kelly.
