He was in ward as a minor to his eventual father-in-law, John Howard <http://www.tudorplace.com.ar/Bios/JohnHoward(1DNorfolk).htm>. Lord of the Manor of Wraxall. He was made Knight of the Bath, at the creation of Arthur, Prince of Wales <http://www.tudorplace.com.ar/Bios/ArthurTudor.htm>, son of Henry VII <http://www.tudorplace.com.ar/aboutHenryVII.htm>, 1489. Sheriff of Somerset, 5 Nov 1495. Thorne George states (p. 79): "1485, Nov. 13th.--General pardon, and release to Edmund GORGES of Wroxhall Co Somerset Esquire, alias of Framlyngham ad castrum Co Suffolk Esquire, of all offences committed up to the present time, and from all penalities attaching thereto".
